Kool Smiles in Lufkin is taking part in something called “Operation Troop Treats”
Typically halloween helps keep dentists in business but at Kool Smiles they will be taking candy instead of giving it out.
In Operation Troop Treats children exchange candy for toys and the candy they donate goes to our men and women in the military serving overseas.
“This is our fifth year that we’ve been doing it,” said Jessica Aguilar, Dental Assistant. “So we’re really proud of what we do helping our troops overseas.”
For every 25 pieces of candy donated a child will receive a toy. This operation is more than just giving troops candy, “it’s a chance for the men and women overseas to kind of have a taste of home sweet home for halloween,” said Beth Brevell, Dental Assistant.
But with large quantities of candy also comes cavities. Kool Smiles has kept this in mind and will be sending more than just candy to the troops.
“We’ll be sending tooth brushes and toothpaste as well as floss so that once they eat all that candy they can make sure they brush and floss so that they don’t come home with cavities,” said Brevell
With this being the fifth year, Kool Smiles is hoping this continues for years to come.
Kool Smiles will be doing this from October 28 until November 5 and Kool Smiles is on Timberland drive in Lufkin near Planet Fitness.
