Kilgore ISD trustees choose superintendent search firm

KILGORE, Texas (LNJ) - Kilgore ISD board members hired a firm Monday to assist them in their search for a permanent superintendent.

According to our newspaper partners, the Longview News Journal, interim superintendent Mike Morrison said the trustees interviewed several firms Monday night and chose to employ the Texas Association of School Boards’ Executive Search Services.

Kilgore ISD will pay the firm $6,500 for its services, he said. Executive Search Services will provide a timeline for the district’s search for a permanent replacement “very soon,” Morrison said.

The candidates will submit applications to the firm, he said. Trustees will screen and interview the candidates in a series of meetings, Morrison said.

Morrison was appointed to his post in July after Superintendent Cara Cooke resigned for a job at Aransas Pass ISD. Before hiring Cooke in 2013, board members voted to search for a permanent superintendent themselves.

Morrison retired as Gladewater ISD superintendent in December 2008 and returned briefly as interim superintendent in 2017.

Earlier this year, Pine Tree ISD hired TASB’s Executive Search Services to help find Superintendent Steve Clugston after Superintendent TJ Farler retired at the end of the school year. Tatum ISD hired the firm to help it find Superintendent J.P. Richardson in early 2017.
