Jacksonville police arrest 1 in weekend shooting, looking for 2 others

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KETK) - Jacksonville Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left on man dead.

On Sunday, shortly after 6 a.m, Jacksonville Police Communication received a 911 call of a shooting 500 block of N. Main Street.

Upon arrival, officers learned three masked men had kicked in the front door of the residence.

Once inside, police say one of the intruders shot Malcolm Hunter Jr. multiple times. Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as Jacolbe Kirby, 27, of Jacksonville.

About 30 minutes after the shooting call came into Jacksonville Police, Kirby walked into the lobby of the department, in an attempt to "clear his name".

While officers were talking to Kirby, officers on scene relayed information from witnesses that identified Kirby as the shooter.

Further evidence was obtained while Kirby was at the police department, prompting his arrest.

Kirby has been booked into Cherokee County Jail on capital murder charges.

Officials are following other leads to identify two other people involved in the crime.
