How package handlers handle Christmas

Local News
With Christmas just about here many of us have presents littered beneath our trees.

But for those of us whose family lives far away we have to ship our gifts and it is a busy time for our package handlers.

‘Tis the season of giving and many have either sent or a received a package for Christmas and the joy of finding a gift at your doorstep can be just as nice as finding a gift under the tree but we tend to forget about who handles those packages.

“This is our 30th year of Christmas and we have seen an awful lot of packages go through especially at Christmastime,” said David Welch, owner of Kline’s Wrap-It-Up in Nacogdoches.

Over the years countless packages have been sent everywhere and there is no telling what might be inside.

“My son sent one, he sent me a package of chocolate covered strawberries,” said Margie Parrott, a Nacogdoches resident.

“We get to see a huge amount of variety and just different things that people are sending,” said Welch.

However finding a store that still will personally deliver wrapped gifts seems to be a thing of the past but our local stores still get busy this time of year.

“It’s not as much as it was 15-20 years ago when it was really, really crazy in here as far as some 400 package days,” said Welch. “We did a 150 package day this year which is pretty good, we’re very pleased with that.”

The reason many prefer to ship their gifts? Convenience.

Merry Christmas everyone.
