“We visited a number of a number of memorial around Texas and we just all pulled our information together,” Basehore said.

The project is expected to be complete in phases, if a site for construction is found.

“We have had a few different places that were possibilities, at this point in time they’ve kinda gone by the way side,” member Edward Birckbichler said.

Leatha Taylor is an advocate for veterans in East Texas and supports the memorial project.

“It’s a wonder thing to have, something to show where your loved ones are being remember,” Taylor said. “And I think the memorial is an excellent idea.”
