Hunger For Love‘s 6th Annual Christmas Under the Bridge is this Saturday in Tyler. The celebration is held below the bridge on Gentry to help the homeless and under resourced.
The staff from Certified Cuts, located at 2521 E 5th Street,in Tyler will be providing haircuts to the homeless from 3 p.m- 6 p.m.
The idea to volunteer came after barber Ricky Hernandez cut hair for similar events while in barber school. He developed a passion for cutting hair at a young age.
“Actually when I was younger, so I started cutting my own hair and my older brother started cutting hair too, so i took it in profession, Hernandez said.
Some see a haircut as a fresh start and something that can boost confidence.
“It will bring out a different personality in people, they gonna feel better about they self, Corey Bartley said. “And sometimes just feel like that you think that you can achieve more things that you think that you could.”
The staff at Certified Cuts want to inspire others to share their talent and give back.
“We’re trying to help out the community, we’re trying to make a difference,” Leo Aguirre said.
“I think everyone should try to at least give back one or twice, we trying to do this, make this a movement like every year or whatever events that’s come about a participate,” Bartley said.
