If you travel southbound on highway 59 between Nacogdoches and Lufkin prepare for delays, construction has begun on the Angelina River Bridge.
This is part of a larger project, TxDot upgrading the bridge railings to meet new standards.
Concrete will be poured, weather permitting, to replace the current railing so traffic will be confined to one 10-foot lane on the southbound bridge throughout the week.
“We want people to really be careful and pack some patience as they get through that traffic going across the bridge,” said Rhonda Oaks, Public Information Officer for TxDot.
Oaks added an alternate route from Nacogdoches to Lufkin is highway 7 until it meets up with highway 69 in Pollock.
“The lane closure and the new concrete, this week, will last throughout this week and hopefully, weather permitting, we’ll be finished with that concrete work and we’ll have it back open to two lanes, southbound, by the end of this week,” said Oaks
The entire project, costing $1.1 million, is expected to be completed some time in February.
