Lufkin will be celebrating its 134th birthday in two weeks and there is going to be a celebration.
Lufkin was established on September 12, 1882.
The Houston East & West Texas Railroad auctioned off town lots at a public auction, and the rest is history.
To celebrate, the Angelina County Genealogical Society will be hosting a program at Lufkin City Hall. People are invited to come and talk about and celebrate the history of Lufkin.
“I just thought it was a landmark event,” said Dickie Dixon, of the Angelina County Genealogical Society. “Lufkin is halfway on the railroad between Houston and Shreveport and I just wanted to delve into Lufkin’s history and celebrate how it began.”
Again, the celebration will be held on September 12th in the city council chamber from 10 a.m. until 3:00.
