Christmas Angels decorate the City of Nacogdoches

Local News
Cities and towns across East Texas are known for having various Christmas decorations up this time of year.
Some put up intricate light designs and others put up works of art.
The city of Nacogdoches takes a simple and sentimental approach.
Christmas angels can be found all around town, mostly in Eugenia Sterne Park near downtown.
“They are meant to honor those that we love that are not longer among us,” said Angela Wiederhold, who has sponsored an angel.
Their designs are simple yet beautiful just chicken wire and pipes painted white each angel has a name on its chest in memory of someone.
Angela Wiederhold sponsored one in her husband’s name after his death in 2013.
“My husband really loved Christmas and an opportunity came open to sponsor one of the angels and my kids and I just couldn’t wait to do that,” said Wiederhold. “We think of it when we drive through and see them all lit up, we think how much he would really like that he’s keeping Christmas alive and hopefully inspiring other kids to love Christmas and all that it represents.”
At night a light is shone on each angel for all to see the angels as a reminder for what Christmas means to the people of Nacogdoches.
