Brookshire Brothers has a reason to celebrate, on this day 95 years ago their first store opened up in Lufkin.
On September 21, 1921 Austin and Tom Brookshire opened the first of what would become many stores.
Members of the community came to the Brookshire Brothers warehouse in Lufkin to celebrate.
The day was packed with stories and of course plenty of food but among the crowd were members of the Brookshire family including Eugene Brookshire, the eldest son of one of founding brothers and he spoke about how the company has stayed strong for nearly a century.
“The Grace of God has a lot to do with it. The greatest thing was getting to know your customers and having a relationship with them and working with good Christian people.”
After 95 years, Brookshire Brothers has 113 stores in Texas and Louisiana and employ over 7,000 people.
