In July Brookshire Brothers broke ground for a new store in Wells and today was the grand opening.
This new store is unlike it’s larger counterparts found across East Texas, this is an Express store.
As part of a new expansion more Express stores will be popping up in early 2017.
The Express store opened at 6:00 on the morning of December 14 and people were already lined up ready to do some shopping.
“We had people coming in while we were building,” said Geri Carrell, Store Manager.
Until now, Wells did not have a grocery store aside from a Polk Pick It Up convenience store and this new store was the result of the people of Wells contacting Brookshire Brother’s corporate office requesting a new store.
To which Brookshire Brothers was happy to comply.
“It is awesome to see such support in a community that truly lives in a food desert,” said Sally Alvis, Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
A celebration was held with snacks, drinks, guest speakers and the Wells Elementary School Choir was there entertaining the crowds with Christmas favorites.
“I’m excited to get to know the people of Wells, I want them to come in here and know that we know them by name and that’s what we want them to feel like, that we’re family,” said Carrell.
The store is located on Highway 69 in Wells right before Cherokee County line.
