Bacteria that cause Legionnaires’ Disease found at DFW airport

Low levels of the bacteria that causes Legionnaire’s disease has been found in the water at four American Airlines maintenance hangers at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Legionnaires’ is a potentially fatal lung infection more commonly known as pneumonia.

Other symptoms associated with the disease can cause vomiting, diarrhea, altered mental status and confusion one medical official said 

American started testing for Legionella after one of the workers there showed symptoms of the disease.

The bacterium is commonly found in water supplies and the disease can be deadly.

A spokesman for American Airlines said nothing is more important than the safety and health of our employees and there taking extra precaution and establishing additional safety procedures.
