The City of Nacogdoches has proposed a plan to annex about 85 acres of land just north of the city limits.
There will be two public hearings next month to discuss the proposal in greater detail.
The plan involves the area on and around North Street near America’s Best Value Inn.
One hope is to allow people in that area to benefit from city emergency services instead of just county services.
“Right now the police department is a second responder,” said Larissa Philpot, Nacogdoches City Planner. “This would be maybe a little bit faster response on any given day just because of the area the county has to cover. Also they would be under the protection of the Nacogdoches Fire Department.”
The idea is to incorporate areas that already feel like they’re a part of the city, and if the proposal goes through the annexation will be some time in September.
