Ashur, a new male African lion was born at the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin. Ashur is only the second African lion born at the Ellen Trout Zoo in over thirty years.

According to Ellen Trout Zoo, Ashur will make his public debut with his mother, Adia, on Saturday. They will be given access to the exhibit through Monday,  weather permitting.

Adia and Ashur will be able to go inside their building out of public view or choose to go out into the exhibit for this first time experience.

Ashur was born totally white on July 15th, 2016.

At nearly 7 weeks of age, Ashur has been slowly darkening from his original “cotton ball” coloration, something Ellen Trout Zoo expected to happen with time. However, he is still very pale compared to other lion cubs his age.
