6 arrested in Cherokee County drug bust

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KETK) - Five people were arrested Wednesday afternoon in Cherokee County on drug charges.

A sixth person was arrested for interfering in the proceedings.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office executed a narcotics search warrant on a residence in the 1000 block of San Saba Street in Jacksonville after being alerted by the U.S. Postal Service.

A press release from the CCSO said it was notified by USPS Inspection Service that it had intercepted a package to be delivered to the address on San Saba Street. The box contained 11 lbs. of marijuana.

The CCSO obtained a search warrant and made a controlled delivery of the package to the address. Once the package was inside, the CCSO SWAT team, members of the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division and the U.S. Postal Inspector entered the residence and executed the warrant.

Authorities found five adults inside and arrested them. Two of the indivisuals were found to have arrest warrants from a neighboring county.

Additional bags of suspected marijuana and a digital scales were found in the search.

All five subjects were arrested for possession of marijuana 5-50 lbs. in a drug-free zone, a felony 3 charge, and taken to the Cherokee County Jail.

They are:

  • Tonya Brown, 40, Jacksonville - $20,000 bond
  • Mickey Cook, 40, Rusk - $40,000 bond
  • Armon Woodward, 32, San Francisco, California - $40,000 bond
  • JModrick Taylor, 21, Jacksonville - $20,000 bond
  • Tatyona Rayson, 19, Rusk - $20,000 bond

Before the five were taken to jail, another individual, DMontrey Christopher, 19, arrived at the scene and was arrested for Interference with Public Duties, Misdemeanor B. Christopher is in custody on a $1,000 bond.
