1 arrested in shooting of East Texas high school students

JEFFERSON, Texas (KETK) - A Longview teen has been arrested in connection with the Tuesday afternoon shooting of two East Texas high school student-athletes.

According to the Marshall News-Messenger, Jefferson Independent School District Superintendent Rob Barnwell confirmed the students were injured in a shooting around 2:00 p.m., near the Family Dollar, located at 800 block of North Walcott Street in Jefferson.

The News-Messenger reports three people were talking outside the store, when another person pulled up, got of of their vehicle and started shooting.

Jefferson Police Chief Gary Amburn said one of the victims was hit in the upper left arm and is stable. The other was stuck multiple times in the chest and was flown to a Louisiana hospital.

According to officials, around 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, 17 year-old Deontra Tyre Lilly was arrested at an apartment complex in the 100 Block of East Hawkins Parkway in Longview in connection with the shooting.

Lilly was arrested by agents with the U.S. Marshall’s Violent Crimes Task Force while he was attempting to leave the scene in a car police believe was involved the crime.

Lilly was booked into the Gregg County Jail on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault/reckless discharge of a firearm.
