The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office and Nacogdoches County Constable Office Precinct 4 are investigating human remains found in a wooded area.
According to Sheriff Jason Bridges, dispatch received a call Sunday afternoon shortly before 3 p.m. in reference to possible human remains on a private road, known as Watermelon Patch Road in the Sand Hill community.
Investigators believe the remains are that of Centrella Chimney, reported missing back in July of 2016. The remains were found less than three miles from Chimney’s residence. According to authorities, a dress found in the woods also matched the description of what Chimney was last seen wearing.
Authorities say Chimney suffered from mental illness and was known to walk frequently along Highway 21 East from her residence toward Chireno.
The remains found have been sent to Tyler and will be sent to a forensic lab for DNA testing.
