Harrison County issues evacuation advisory

HARRISON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASE:

Harrison County Judge Taylor and the Emergency Management Office is issuing this notice of evacuation preparedness for all areas of Caddo Lake and including, Big Lake, Tucker’s Camp, Myers Ln., Uncertain area, and areas of Karnack that border Caddo Lake in low lying areas.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents in the Caddo Lake Area of a mandatory evacuation issued by County Judge Taylor of their residence, and all low lying areas, as the lake level is expected to rise approximately 2 feet prior to Midnight, tonight. The Mooringsport lake level monitoring station expects the lake level to rise to a major flood level of 178.2′ by Sunday morning. The current lake level has risen to a moderate flood stage of 174.5 at 10:00 AM, today. The minor flood stage is 172.0′.

Residents should take medications, clothing, pets, and any other necessary items that they need to be taken with them when they evacuated.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Red Cross to establish overnight shelter at 305 E Austin St, Jefferson, Texas. That shelter will be open at 6:00 PM on 3-9-2016.

Numerous roadways are already experiencing flooding and drivers are advised to use extreme caution while driving. Do not drive into flooded roadways.
