H.S. soccer playoffs under way, JT rallies past Lindale, Lufkin routs Greenville

The John Tyler Lions trailed 1-0 until eight minutes remained in their 5A Bi-District round contest Friday against Lindale.

JT tied it on a Franki Sanchez penalty kick which sent the game into overtime, and proceeded to score twice in the extra session for a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.

Victor Leon and Uriel Barroso tallied the OT goals for the Lions.

JT (20-3-4) who won its district title after missing the playoffs a year ago, advances to take on Mesquite Poteet in the area round.

Also in the 5A boys playoffs, Lufkin routed Greenville 6-1.  The Panthers got goals from Erik Cebrian, Leo Acevedo, Jason Camacho, and Alex Santana to improve to 13-8-5.

Ian Miller scored the lone goal for the Lions.

Lufkin advances to play Midlothian in round two.

In girls action, Tyler Lee shut out Temple 4-0.  The Lady Raiders will play Plano West in the 6A area round next week.

The Longview Lady Lobos came from behind to knock out Waco Midway 2-1 in overtime.  Colleen Gilliland with the game winner for Longview.

They will play in Allen in round two.
