FIRST ON KETK: Pine Tree AD/HC resigns

News

Pine Tree ISD will soon be searching for a new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach following the resignation of David Collins.

Collins, who just finished his second year leading the Pirates, will take the position of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson. Pearce HS confirmed the news to KETK. School administration says his duties will begin immediately.

Before coming to Pine Tree in 2014, Collins was the offensive coordinator at Lake Travis High School where he coached from 2011-2014. The Cavaliers posted an undefeated 16-0 season in 2011, including winning the 4A Division I State Championship. The LT offense averaged 45.3 points per game during this 2011 season. In 2012, as a member of the Lake Travis staff, he was selected to coach the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game in Fort Worth. In his final season at Lake Travis, Collins helped take the Cavaliers back to a 5A Division II state semifinal game. Lake Travis amassed  a 37-4 record during his three-year tenure.

Before Lake Travis, Collins was the Offensive Coordinator at Garland High school where he helped lead the Owls to a 27-8 record and three straight trips to the state playoffs. Coach Collins also had coaching stops at Allen High School and his alma mater, Mabank High School.

Pine Tree officially hired Collins on February 24, 2014. He was named the school’s lone finalist on February 17, 2014.

Pine Tree will open their 2016 season at home against the Jacksonville Indians on August 26. Under who, is yet to be determined.
