A former Texas A&M football player who allegedly killed a jogger in a random act of violence has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The paper reports Thomas Johnson, 21, will spend up to 120 days in the North Texas State hospital for treatment and evaluation.
According to the Dallas Police Department, back on the morning of October 12, 2015, Johnson attacked a jogger with a machete and killed him. The victim was identified as 53-year-old Dave Stevens.
Johnson played a short time for the Aggies and was a highly regarded recruit coming out of Dallas Skyline High School.
In 2012, Johnson went missing following A&M’s upset win over Alabama. It was announced he was leaving the school after he was found.
Johnson has previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
