An East Texas EMT died Friday morning when their vehicle hit a tree in Rusk County near Henderson.

According to the Department of Public Safety, at around 7:01 a.m., a driver was headed north on Highway 259 at an unsafe speed when the car left the road and struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Joe Sorrells. He was identified as Joseph Daniel Stringer, 34, of Henderson.

Stringer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. His body was taken to Rader Funeral Home.

Authorities said wet roads were also a factor in the wreck.
