DPS identifies motorcylist killed in crash


A 56-year-old man has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash on Saturday.

Shortly after 11 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a two-vehicle on Highway 271, eight miles south of Gilmer.

According to a preliminary Department of Public Safety crash report, a vehicle towing a trailer was trying to back out of a private drive on the east side of US 271 when a motorcycle collided with the trailer.

DPS stated the motorcycle was headed north on US 271 and ran into the trailer as it was backing into the northbound lane.

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Troy Cagle of Gilmer.  He was pronounced dead by Judge Jameson at a Longview hospital.  Teresa Cagle, 56, of Gilmer, was a passenger on the motorcycle and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as Jesse Johnson, 33, of Gilmer.

The final crash report is not yet complete.
