Several new businesses are coming to the Longview area, including the first ever microbrewery in downtown, Oil Horse Brewing Company. The two owners said they wanted to stay true to Longview with an oil industry theme. They will serve all custom-made beers. They are looking to revitalize Downtown Longview, and make it a fun place where people want to be.
Jack Buttram, Oil Horse Brewing Company co-owner said, “We’re getting a 7-barrel system, so that’s about 250 gallons. And this system back here we are running now, it’s a 15 gallon half-barrel system. And we’ll have 10 taps here.”
They have already started to brew one of their first beers called Nodding Donkey.
John Oglesbee, in co-ownership with Buttram said, “We’re making beer here, so you’ll be able to actually come in and see the process and hang out with us. You can just enjoy the atmosphere and the fun that we’re going to have down here.”
It could open as soon as April and as late as May. The microbrewery is located at 101 West Tyler Street. Another new business coming to East Texas is Dick’s Sporting Goods. The construction is just getting started in a 45,000 square foot space at the Longview Mall. It will take the place of Lunar Mini Golf, and will be located on the northwest side by Sears. The retailer is the largest full-line sporting goods store in the nation, with over 645 stores. Longview Mall is also in the works of adding a mexican-style restaurant chain, On the Border.
