CPSC recalling half a million hoverboards

News

A popular gift has been recalled. The U.S. consumer product safety commission is recalling half a million Hoverboards due to fire hazard.

The agency said the lithium-ion battery packs in the self-balancing hoverboards can overheat, resulting in sparking, smoking, fire and explosion.

There have been at least 99 incidents of burn injuries and property damage reported.

The recalled hoverboards, which have two wheels, were sold between June 2015 and May 2016 at retailers and online, including overstock.com.

The CPSC said a list of the recalled products is available. Consumers are advised to stop using them and contact the manufacturer for information about a refund, or in some cases, a repair.
