The Big Bass Splash Tournament is for your every day fishermen. It’s a chance at more than $500,000 in cash pay outs.
“It’s so fun to fish this tournament, there’s so many prizes to win,” Tommy Duncan, Gladwater fisherman, said.
“Our event is real simple, it’s all amateurs, there’s no professionals allowed to fish out event. It’s fishing, family, and fun. Anybody has a chance to win at our event,” Bob Sealy, Big Bass Splash owner, said.
Fishermen from everywhere come to fish in the waters at Lake Fork Marina in small town Alba.
“I’m from Olathe, Kansas. This is my favorite lake to come to just because you can cast one time and catch a ten pound fish.”
“We have 32 states represented. We have people from the east coast to the west coast here fishing.”
And with more people, comes more commerce.
“The economic impact of what we do for the counties that surround lake fork is incredible. We’ll generate about nine and a half million dollars in five days of economic impact.”
More than 2,000 fishermen came out for the weekend to participate. One fishermen impressed the crowd with a fat ten pounder.
“It just happened. I thought I done caught a tree. We’re gonna go try to make some more money.”
The Big Bass Splash benefits the Ronald Mcdonald House and Saint Judes Children Hospital.
Sealy says through his organization, millions of dollars have been donated over the years.
“We give back a lot, the anglers do, and we take care of the anglers and we have fun.”
