Authorities end semi pursuit near Marshall by shooting out tires

A Las Vegas man is in police custody after he allegedly stole a semi from inside Marshall city limits and led authorities on a pursuit.

According to DPS, at around noon, officers were notified of a stolen truck-tractor that was tracked by Celadon Trucking Services Inc. to the city of Marshall.

Harrison County deputies found the stolen vehicle and tried to stop it.  For unknown reasons, the driver began evading police and continued south on US 59, north of Marshall. 

Troopers made several attempts to disable the truck with tire deflation devices, successfully deflating two. The semi continued through the city, disregarding traffic control devices and endangering the general public.  Officers stopped the vehicle, shooting out the tires south of Marshall on US 59.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported.  He was identified as  Oliver Jerone Branch, 55, of Las Vegas. 

Branch is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.  He has been booked into the Harrison County Jail.
