Amtrak train headed to ETX collides with semi


Emergency crews are on the scene of fatal train crash involving an 18-wheeler in Dallas County.

According to an Amtrak spokesperson, the wreck happened around 4:30 p.m. in Sunnyvale, near the Mesquite city line. A rock hauler obstructing the tracks was hit by the Amtrak train, and the driver was killed, according to NBCDFW. Their identity is unknown.

Forty-four people were aboard the train en route to Mineola.

According to the Amtrack website, the train was headed from San Antonio to Chicago. Amtrak officials expect for the train to proceed to Mineola and continue on its path if there are no issues with the locomotive. 

No passenger or crew members were injured.
