13 dead after plane lands in Moscow covered in flames

A Russian passenger jet landed in flames in Moscow Sunday, and Russian officials say at least 13 people are dead including two children.

Dramatic amateur video shows the regional jet fully engulfed, and trailing thick black smoke as it came to a stop on the runway.

Russian media said in addition to the dead, at least six people were injured.

The Russian government says the plane had taken off for the northern city of Murmansk.

The airport said the crew announced a malfunction, and it returned to the airport northwest of Moscow, making a hard landing and bursting into flames.

Firefighters responded to the emergency.

Amateur video showed inflatable slides deployed from the aircraft and people running away from the burning wreckage.

The plane belonged to Russian national carrier Aeroflot.

Russian media reported there were 78 passengers on board.
