1 dead following wreck near Sulphur Springs

One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 19 near Sulphur Springs.

According to the Texas Department of Public safety, Enrique Mendoza, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, troopers responded to the crash six miles south of Sulphur Springs.

The preliminary investigation shows Demarquez Tennon, 20, of Paris, was driving north on Highway 19 in a truck when he left the road and drove into a ditch. He then tried to overcorrect into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane.  There his truck collided with a car traveling southbound.

Mendoza was the driver of the car traveling southbound. His body was taken to a local funeral home.

Two passengers in Tennon’s vehicle were taken to an area hospital. They have been identified as Demontarius Lipscomb, 22, of Paris, and Joe Wallace, 22.

Wallace is in stable condition. Lipscomb’s condition is unknown.
