We will leave the word of news for this opinion piece and focus on what makes Christmas really special in East Texas….you.
We have this conversation in the newsroom this week. I have lived all across the country, but I have never lived in such a giving place.
Everyone does the obvious Christmas charities — and there is nothing wrong with them — they are fantastic. It goes beyond that here.
Not only do people give to the tried and true charities, but also go the extra mile to make sure as many people as they can are feeling loved and maybe getting a gift this holiday season.
We have made it a point to really report Christmas stories this year. I think we all need a break from the doom and gloom of the world. Most are done with politics.
So, we have really focused on Christmas stories. And we found with one, there is another and another and another. People doing their own thing to to do what they can to make sure no one is left out.
We are a good-hearted people here. I think a lot of that comes from our faith of being taught to care for others from our ancestors.
Lets take time this season to love on one another. Make someone feel special
Also, when it comes to spending that money, let’s make sure we shop locally. Store-owners are our neighbors. They go to school with our kids. They pay a lot of local taxes.
Most importantly, they are our fellow East Texans.
That’s my point of view, what’s yours?
