A Louisiana man was arrested Tuesday after the Carthage Police Department said 86 pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle, according to our newspaper partner The Longview News Journal

Michael Darnell Tillman, 40, of Monroe, Louisiana, was arrested on a charge of possessing between 50 pounds and 2,000 pounds of marijuana. Tillman was being held Thursday on a $20,000 bond.

Officer David Fitts saw a tractor-trailer on Sabine Street, off the truck route, police said.

Police said after Fitts stopped the truck, he detected the smell of marijuana coming from the cab and then got a signed consent to search the vehicle.

Police said he found 86 pounds of what is believed to be marijuana wrapped in bundles inside two trash bags.

Police said two officers helped Fitts during the investigation. They said the evidence will be submitted to the Texas Department of Public Safety lab to be analyzed and the case forwarded to the Panola County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
