The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one person in connection with a July 23 murder.
According to Sheriff Kenneth Hammack, a 911 caller reported shots fired at around 3:19 a.m.. The person stated his friend had been shot with a 20 gauge shotgun in the Wild Country Subdivision.
Emergency officials responded to the scene and found Michael Lopez, 19, of Beaumont, with a single gunshot wound.
A witness and Samuel Jacobe Gotreaux told authorities Lopez and Gotreaux were involved in an argument when the victim threw a metal object through the back glass of Gotreaux’s truck.
The suspect stepped out of his truck, grabbed a shotgun from his back seat, loaded the weapon with one round and fired the weapon toward Lopez, hitting him in the right armpit/chest area. Lopez was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Sheriff Hammack said after detectives processed the scene they took Gotreaux to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed. He was charged with murder and is currently being held in the Polk County Jail.
