Sheriff: Drug abuser charged with endangering a child

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they say is a known drug abuser for endangering a child.

Joe St. Clair, 26, of Malakoff, was arrested at his home and charged with felony endangering a child. The suspect  was arrested in August of this year and charged with possession of marijuana. Following the incident, information led detectives to the endangering a child arrest.

When deputies went to take St. Clair into custody, they found the St. Clair with even more marijuana and items to grow the drug.

The suspect faces a felony endangering a child charge and two charges of possession of the illegal drug and growing the drug.

“There are those that say some crime have no victims,” Hillhouse said. “I say ‘You tell that to this child’.”
“If you have drugs in this County, I will find you and put you in jail. Rest assured.”

Hillhouse also said anyone who harms a child will be dealt with swiftly.

“If you hurt a child while using or dealing illegal drugs – I don’t care what kind or how much – you go to the top of my to-do list,” Hillhouse said.

Since taking office in June, Hillhouse and his team have made more than 700 arrests, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

St. Clair is currently being held in the Henderson County Jail on bonds totaling $53,500.
