The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a recent uptick in burglaries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, in the last two weeks, deputies have responded to an increase in home burglaries, predominantly south of Highway 79 South.

The thieves are targeting easy to grab items: jewelry, guns and electronics.

The Sheriff’s Office stated anything out of the ordinary should be reported to law enforcement.

“Let’s all help by keeping an eye on each other’s home and property. If you see something that is out of the normal call us and let us check it out. Like Sheriff Price has said for the last few years he would rather us find its the cable guy working on the house next door than for you to have watched your friends home being robbed!”

Officials also ask homeowners to lock up any firearms in a gun safe to keep them from being easily taken.

You can contact Rusk County at 903-657-3581.
