A Mount Pleasant deployed a SWAT team on Monday to take a burglar into custody after he barricaded himself inside a home.

Oscar Banda, 24, of Mount Pleasant broke into a house in the 300 block of W 8th street. Police were alerted by a witness.

When police arrived, they surrounded the residence and attempted to get him to surrender peacefully.

Banda then tried to escape through the back of the house by breaking through a wall. He refused verbal commands to surrender.

When he refused, officers used a TASER to subdue him. Banda was then taken into custody uninjured.

He is no stranger to the law. According to Titus county judicial records, Banda has been arrested 22 times in the past seven years with charges including assault, car theft, and drug possession.

He is currently being held on a $22,500 bond.
