A Lufkin had himself arrested on Tuesday evening so he could spend Thanksgiving in jail, according to a police report.

Police said they arrested Shawn James Daggett, 36, at around 6 p.m. when the suspect approached an off-duty officer working security at Brookshire Brothers and reported he was trespassing. The man told the officer he had just been released from jail minutes earlier, but he wanted to go back.

The report states Daggett said he wanted to be in jail so he could have a place to sleep, get free food and a shower for the next day or so.

The man also allegedly said he was afraid he would die on the streets from the cold weather and rain.

Daggett was arrested and booked into jail for criminal trespass. He is being held on $1,500 bond.

Daggett has served three other jail stints in the past 50 days for criminal trespass.
