A 28-year-old Longview man is accused of assaulting a woman and then pouring gasoline on her, police said.

According to our newspaper partner The Longview News Journal, Daniel Odell Wright was held Tuesday in the Gregg County Jail on $10,000 bond on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, jail records show.

Wright was arrested after police responded at 11:11 p.m. Monday at a home in the 900 block of Harmon Drive on a family violence call. The victim and her son had left the home through a bedroom window and ran to a fire station at 1133 E. Birdsong St. to call police.

The victim, who was taken to a Longview medical center, told police that Wright had been drinking, verbally abused her, slapped and punched her, causing her to fall. She said Wright got on top of her, pulled out a semiautomatic pistol, pointed it at her and struck her on the side of the head.

The woman tried to protect herself, but Wright struck her on the hand with the pistol, grabbed a gasoline can and poured gas over her, police said.
