Police arrested a man Tuesday night accused of scratching and punching a nurse at Longview Regional Medical Center, according to our news partners The Longview News Journal.

Jason Carroll Wellborn, 35, of Gilmer was held Wednesday in the Gregg County Jail on $11,000 in bonds on a charge of assault on a public servant and a warrant for contempt of court disobedience of court order, jail records show.

Police responded at 9:22 p.m. Monday to the hospital to a call about an assault and entered a trauma room where Wellborn was being restrained in a bed.

The nurse told police that he went into the trauma room by himself to check on Wellborn, who was moaning, police said. The nurse said Wellborn assaulted him after he gave Wellborn a pen and paper to write down why he was moaning.

Officers arrested Wellborn at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday after he was medically cleared to leave the hospital, police said.
