UPDATE: Warrants for illegal gambling served through joint operation in East Texas

Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department and Vand Zandt County Criminal District Attorney’s Office executed search warrants at four illegal gambling sites Friday evening, according to Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

More than 40 people were cited and eight people were arrested for operating the business.

Charges include:

  • Engaging in organized criminal activity
  • Money laundering
  • Possession of gambling devices
  • Operating a gambling establishment

The search warrants resulted in seize of $70,000, four guns, and a stolen vehicle.

“An investigation of this magnitude does not happen overnights. It takes persistence, diligence, and the patient to keep dedicating resources to the fine details without seeing immediate results,” Tonda Curry, Criminal District Attorney wrote.

On Friday evening, multiple law enforcement agencies served search warrants around East Texas to combat illegal gambling, according to Gregg County Sheriff, Maxey Cerliano.

Agencies involved:

  • Gregg County Sheriff’s Office
  • Greg County District Attorney’s Office
  • Smith County Sheriff’s Office
  • Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office
  • Longview Police Department
  • Lake Port Police Department
  • CODE Unite

“At this point, we got this area secure, we’re working on cataloging on anything we may have and begin starting on the process of going through evidence, collecting evidence, and anything that may aid the investigation,” said Joshua Tubb, Gregg County Sheriff PIO.

“We have had a couple of arrests at this location. Not sure exact what the charges were at this point. I do know that at least one of them was not connected with the search warrants,” said Tubb
