Mye Owens

Mye Owens joined the KETK news team in December 2018. She comes to Tyler from her hometown of Nashville, TN.

Mye graduated from the historic Fisk University in Nashville, TN, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English and Psychology.

She then went on to Syracuse, N.Y., where she received her Master’s in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. While attending Syracuse University, Mye served as a student reporter, covering issues concerning the everyday student.

While earning her degree, she spent her Christmas break interning with WAKA, in Montgomery, AL. She also interned with Spectrum News in Syracuse, New York.  Her most memorable experience is interning with WSAV-TV as a Washington News Correspondent.

While in D.C., she had the chance to cover issues concerning women in politics, as well as follow Brett Kavanaugh as he made his way through the capitol as President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.

As a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, she enjoys telling the stories that impact all. When she’s not in the newsroom, you can find Mye traveling. Her bucket list has just one item on it, and it’s to travel to every single place in the world. Mye’s motto is, “God didn’t create it, for us not to see it.” Now, she is looking forward to exploring East Texas, and telling the story of those who live here.
