More rain, cold temperatures Wednesday

TYLER, Texas (KETK) - From Monday’s near record-tying high temperatures to our 40s and 50s this afternoon, the cold front has come through and it feels more like December! Now, there has been a big change to the forecast on Wednesday. Additional rain showers are likely for us for mid-week, and clouds will be slow to clear out for Thursday.

Our next upper disturbance is associated with a broad swath of colder air that is impacting most of the United States. There is another piece of energy over the Four Corner states as of Tuesday afternoon that will be moving into Texas. This energy acts as a lifting mechanism to generate rain—a chilly rain for us on Wednesday.

Let’s look at the timing of the rain for you on Wednesday.

As early as late this evening, rain showers could start to increase over our area. This should start relatively light in the intensity.

Going into Wednesday morning, rain is likely to increase—especially in Deep East Texas. Now, this model showing a widespread coverage of the rain showers on Wednesday. However, rain will be mostly the heaviest and greater coverage in Deep East Texas.

Rain will continue for through the day for our area and gradually letting up by Wednesday late afternoon and evening. Because of the rain, temperatures will likely stay in the 40s for us Wednesday afternoon. When this next round is said and done, new rainfall totals could reach up to an inch over Deep East Texas.

By early Thursday morning, the rain showers are clearing Deep East Texas. Now the focus turns toward the slow decrease of the clouds. We’re optimistic that after a cloudy Thursday morning, the sunshine will be returning by the afternoon hours. It will lead to breezy and chilly conditions.

If clouds clear out, we will have a light freeze to start our day. Sunshine should return by Friday afternoon.

This evening on KETK & FOX51, Chief Meteorologist Scott Chesner has another update on the rain headed our way for Wednesday. Check back with him tonight for the latest forecast.
