We have an East Texas Super Bowl on our hands this week as the (12-1) Longview Lobos and (11-2) Lufkin Panthers prepare to face off in the Class 6A Division 2 State quarterfinals Saturday at 2:00pm at SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
Of their 80 meetings, nine have been in the playoffs, with the lobos winning five of them. But the last time they met in the elite eight of the state's largest classification was back in 2002 when the Panthers won a thriller 24-21 in Tyler. The two teams also met back in this year's season opener with Longview winning 35-16, but a lot has changed since.
We asked the Lobos on Monday to give us their thoughts on what the old rivals playing four rounds deep in the playoffs means to East Texas.
Watch the video to see the story.
We plan to talk to the Panthers later in the week.
