Troup woman identified in fatal overnight Longview car crash involving a train

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - A Troup woman is dead following an overnight crash in Longview involving a car and a train. 

Longview Police say at around 11:45 Saturday evening Nelda Cooper, 77, was traveling west bound on Interstate 20, near the Estes Parkway exit. 

For an unknown reason her truck ran off the road into a train which was sitting on a nearby set of train tracks. After striking the train her truck then caught fire. 

Police and firefighters shut down the roads, and worked to contain the blaze.

Cooper died at the scene, however it's unknown if she was killed in the initial impact. 

It's unknown what damage, if any, was done to the train. We also do not know what type of cargo the train was carrying.
