Ferndale, CA (KETK) - A California woman is behind bars after officials say she injured her daughter during an attempted exorcism.
According to The Sacramento Bee, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office received a 91 call on Friday reporting a woman was hitting, biting and choking her daughter on the beach while trying to perform an exorcism.
The caller said, the woman, identified as 45-year-old Kimberly Felder, had also stripped her 11-year-old daughter naked and shoving sand into her eyes and mouth. A man tried to wrestle Felder away from the child, but she continued to hit her daughter in the head with a piece of driftwood, The Sacramento Bee reports.
A sheriff's deputy arrived on scene and was able to pull Felder off the child. The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment for her injuries, including severe damage to her ear.
Felder was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, felony child abuse and aggravated mayhem.
