WARRANT: East Texas homicide stemmed from threat to show nude photos

LIBERTY CITY, Texas (LNJ) - Jessie Brown hunted down John Allen Franco before fatally shooting him in 2015, telling others he wanted to hurt Franco for threatening to show nude photos of Brown’s stepdaughter.

That’s what one of two people driving around with Brown that night told a Gregg County Sheriff’s Office investigator in an October 2017 interview, giving police enough information to arrest Brown on a murder charge in connection with Franco’s death.

The warrant for Brown’s arrest, returned Wednesday, is providing new details on the two-year homicide investigation, including what happened the night of the shooting and the steps it took for police to find out who was responsible.

Sheriff’s deputies were called about 10 p.m. May 20, 2015, to the area of Old Highway 135 and Smallwood Road in Liberty City, where they found Franco’s car had gone into a ravine. First responders initially thought it was a one-vehicle wreck, but discovered Franco had been shot in the head, police said. He also had several small cuts to his head and face, which police said were identied as particles of broken glass.
