TYLER, Texas (KETK) - Saturday evening, Visit Tyler hosted their first ever Hit the Bricks event downtown. Every second Saturday, they'll have entertainment, food, tours and more.
"Downtown is a place where the community really should gather," said ETX Brewing Co. owner Brian Gilstrap.
ETX Brewing Company is one of the local businesses taking part in Hit the Bricks. They gave out tours Saturday afternoon and live music is scheduled for the evening as well.
Visit Tyler hopes this will draw more people to the area.
"Its going to be different every single time but rain or shine, we'll be here and they'll be something to do," said Visit Tyler Assistant Vice-President of Marketing Holli Conley-Fourniquet.
She said they're doing this to help promote local businesses, like the ETX Brewing Company. They will be giving tours every second Saturday at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m.
"There's a lot of cool stainless steel stuff to look at, a lot of cool equipment to look at. People want to get involved, people want to know where their beer is made, how it's made," said Gilstrap.
Everything from live music, food, tours and art, they're planning to have it all.
"In the future we want to add more artists to the mix, we want people to be doing live art on the square. We're kicking off some haunted tours of downtown, which will be a lot of fun, we'll have some walking history tours of downtown," said Conley-Fourniquet.
Vendors like the Sseko Fellows are excited to see the downtown community grow.
"We have such a special downtown feel," said Monique Boehme. "I'm from a bigger city so coming here and having a smaller town where you feel really safe to bring your kids and do stuff as a family, I really love that."
"It's exciting to get to meet people, get to know people and really feel rooted in Tyler," added Kara Jenkins.
Visit Tyler said they're working to bring not only locals, but more tourists as well.
"They keep our restaurants open, they keep our hotels open, they bring money from the outside of the city, inside of the city which keeps our property taxes lower," said Conley-Fourniquet.
Future dates for Second Saturday Hit the Bricks: May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11 and December 9.
