Tyler man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting child, sentenced to 25 years in prison

TYLER, Texas (KETK) -  A Tyler man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of child.

Justin Ray Dunford, 18, pleaded guilty on Friday and was sentenced in the 7th District Court of Judge Kerry L. Russell.

On May 28, 2017, authorities received a complaint about a child who had been sexually assaulted by 18-year-old Justin Ray Dunford at a home on County Road 2216, according to the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

Responding deputies learned a woman's niece had complained of genital soreness and had been taken to the doctor when she made an outcry about the alleged sexual assault. The victim claims she was sexually assaulted and oral sex was performed on her, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Once detectives interviewed the mother and the child was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center, an arrest warrant was issued for Dunford.

The family stated Dunford had been living at their home, but was not related to anyone.

His sentence is set to being immediately.
