Gilmer, Texas (KETK) - It's only four months away...That time of year when Texas towns close down and head to their local high school football fields to cheer on their hometown team under the Friday Night Lights.
And what better way for the athletes, who want to shine come football season, to get prepared this summer?
Gilmer offensive line coach Kurt Traylor is gearing up for his fourth annual East Texas O-Line Camp.
This is the ultimate offensive line camp for spread offenses. Whether you are a young player looking to develop your skill set quickly, or an older athlete looking for a few more tools, Coach Traylor and his staff are equipped to make athletes better offensive linemen.
With an outstanding background as a high school offensive line coach and the experience of being a graduate assistant at Texas A&M under offensive line coach J.B. Grimes, Coach Traylor brings both his passion and expertise to field helping high school and junior high offensive lineman exceed expectations.
As the offensive line coach for the Gilmer Buckeyes, Coach Traylor's offensive lines have paved the way for three state championships, five state championship appearances and more than 15 district championships.
Under Coach Traylor's wing, the Gilmer offensive line led the Buckeyes to the 4A Division II state title in 2014. The Gilmer offense put up the second-most points in the history of Texas high school football with 950 in 16 games, for an average of 59.4 points per game. The Buckeyes scored more than 60 points on nine occasions, twice posting 80 or more. They also averaged 536.1 total yards per game (8,577), with a balanced 293.9 passing yards and 242.1 rushing yards per contest.
"The offensive lineman camp helped me grow as an individual and an offensive lineman," Austin Anderson said. "The camp helped me to improve on hand placement, pass setting, run blocking, zone steps, ball get off, reading stunts and much more. If you are a lineman in East Texas and have a chance to go to the Kurt Traylor Offensive Line Camp, do not miss a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn from the area's best."
Former All-Big XII offensive lineman David Snow reiterated Austin Anderson's praise for the camp.
"Coach Traylor was instrumental in my development as a player," David Snow said. "Few coaches stress the importance of technique, while still focusing on the mental aspects of the game. He goes to great lengths to find the best ways for his lineman to succeed. I am very thankful I was able to be coached by him. He focuses not only on his players' athletic ability, but their heart through instilling lessons to build character that will last a lifetime."
Each day will consist of three hours of quality, fundamental and advanced offensive line instruction from 5:30 p.m., - 8:30 p.m. The skills and fundamentals taught at the camp are a great foundation for young inexperienced lineman. More experienced offensive lineman will benefit from more advanced offensive line play being taught in small group settings.
