ATHENS, Texas (KETK) - Thousands of dollars in concession stand equipment and softball gear were stolen from Cain Park in Athens earlier this week.
Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill said the items were stolen overnight between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday. There are no persons of interest or suspects at this time.
The burglars broke into the concession stand using some sort of bolt cutter to get through the metal grate covering the protected door. Once the grate was pulled back, the lock to the door was cut and entry was made, said Hill.
The thieves took typical concession stand items ranging from frozen foods to countertop fryers and a snow cone machine. The burglars also got their hands on three to four sets of catching gear. The total value of all the stolen goods is about $13,000.
The discovery of the theft was made by a TVCC softball team member who showed up at the field and noticed the concession door open.
Due to Cain Park being located in a remote area, police are still seeking leads for any possible suspects.
Hill called the crime a "sad situation for the softball association."
Henderson County Girls Softball Association posted about the theft to their Facebook page.
